From what I know and have heard, granted I don't have experience with them, but the old strains of McCleans came both with Yellow legs and Green. Seems most people now days breed them to the green/dark side and a yellow never pops up. I've never seen a yellow legged McClean but told they are out there.
Just my opinion.

Polloman,
Bobwhite is corrrect. The Mcsleans come both yellow and Green legs. The Green was more popular in the past because people then think that the hatches only come that way. Only a few people knew then that the yellow lgged ones are the same as the greens. I happen to now this because a friend of mine is a boyhood freind of Harry Parr, the man who fought with Ted Mclean and got all of his birds upon his death by suicide. This freing of mine told me and I have also seen them, that real mcleans can not win in todays competition because they are too stupid. Their main asset is their gameness and bottom. If you could check your gamefowl journals, you can probally read an article (I forgat the issue) that at one time one of sanford hatch's was praying for a good cutting bird for once because he was too tierd of handling in the drag. Oh Sanford Hatch was a partner of Ted M during those days because I believe they both held a seat in the stock exchange. If you want to see on in action, you can find one in the 2003 GD vcd. The last fight of Jimar against NJ combine 1. The nj entry is mine and that rooster is half YL Mclean.

Polloman,
I do raised an Old Ted Mclean Peahead hatch line and been inbreding them for a while and some throw backs comes yellowish colored legs, and now I am getting some spangle in color. I experimented a brother and sister mating and more of the yellowish and spangle color are the offspring (just to prove it). So, ya I'm kinda confuse myself, but I am getting it and just been breeding them around themselves. To make it short, Yes I'm sure that there is yellow legs on those Mcleans. My Mcleans are fast, breaks really high, so much power, good cutters and very aggressive. My buddy's called them superman. I fight them pure till last year. The only thing is they get cut a lot because they fight too close (too aggressive). I have cross them and the 2 years old crosses are looking good.

Re: McLean Yellow leg HATCH ?
Mauricir,
Is the so-called yellowish leg that popout the same thing as what they call a "WILLOW LEG"?... Are the YL hatch of today the same as the McLeans?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
i think they infused
a yellow legged
boston roundhead
the original hatch fowl
in those old days
were straightcomb
(brownred and whitehackle are both straightcomb)
the peacomb and yellow shanks
of modern hatch today
i think were derived
from infusion of boston roundhead blood
giving breaking ability
to the mcleans
