Boston Roundhead article from BATTLECOCK MAGAZINE as written by Henry Estolas.
Origin of Boston Roundhead.
In 1864,John Harwood was head stevedore at East Boston docks for the Cunard Steam Ship Company. In that year one of the streamers brought over from England a trio of gamefowl. The address and shipping bill of this fowl was lost. The company kept the fowl for three months and gave them to Harwood. He paid the shipping charges. Harwood gave the fowl to his friend Ned Gill, who breed and fought them. They called this gamestrain the Gill Roundheads or Boston Roundheads. They were light red fowls with black breast, more or less streaked with hinger. The hens ,light wheaten color. All had YELLOW legs. The imported trio had small ROUNDHEADS, pea combs and heavy feathers (same features of an Allen Roundheads if you noticed).
After Ned Gill died,John Mc Coy of Marblehead,Massachussetts got some of the Gill fowl and crossed this with John Stone"s fowl. The progeny from this mating went to Frank Coolidge and from him to Mr.Duryeas. Mr Duryeas Boston Roundhead has been one of the strain used for breeding the mean and viscious Sanford Hatch. Also ,Frank Shy infused a fine Boston Roundhead from M.J.Bowen in 1933 for this Narragansett strain.

Bounty Hunter,
Pare Boston Roundhead and Allen Roundhead are two of my favorite roundhead breeds also pero lamang ng konti ang Allen kasi hayop sa taas at maganda ang weaving sa lupa.
Happy New Year and Good Luck to everyone.

I won this broodcock in a Sagupaan Feeds raffle last June. We were told by PA's men that this is an imported roundhead. Lacy, or Boston or Allen roundhead? I have no idea. You be the judge.

Breed Names
Bro.
I like your attitude. Ika nga ni Mr. Frank Shy who's name is quoted in this thread
"Names don't win games"
Roundhead, squarehead, yellow leg, whiteleg, greenleg, hatch, lemon, hulsey etc.....
If you can tell that a chicken will win on the basis of these terms baka wala nang sabong kasui malalaman na natin kung sino ang mananalo by establishing kung aling Kulay o pangalan ang magaling....
Basta keep records of which fowl you win with, how you breed and care for them...just keep track...kahit bansagan mo pa ng "Talunan Strain" yan by name eh kung magaling talaga eh mananalo't mananalo yan...

Breed Names

Bounty Hunter
Isang malaking toast at bottoms up sating paniniwala kabayan!!!
One simple question lang ang dapat itanong...Considerng the exact science of genetics.
Can anyone claim that for example, a chicken bred by Sanford Hatch in his time and another chicken hatched today bred as a "Hatch" would have the same genetic makeup as the one bred by Sanford Hatch himself ?.... this after several years/generations of breeding and interbreeding by so many people simply calling their breeder line Hatches but only God knows where and when exactly they came up!!!

Bro Edwin (TAMBAK),
I got only an allen rh hen from the same breeder/friend where you got yours in San Jose, CA. I don't have an allen rh broodcock so I won't be able to produce some pures, too bad.
I sparred a stag produced from this hen and he sparred just like you described - magaling sa itaas at nagwe-weave sa ibaba.
Maybe if I can afford it, I'll get an allen rh broodstag/broodcock from you. I know that you know that our friend Glenejer is also dying to have this line. I will let him borrow my allen rh hen maybe around Feb or March.
Hope to meet you soon!
Regards,
BG

Battlegear,
you have a hen isn't it na pwede kang magbalik lahi so lang as solid yung inahin.

Vito also mentioned his Allens in the topic NO SWEATER FANATIC in Chicken Talk forum.

nakakatawang isipin.... I totally agree with you sir. there is no assurance of winning a fair cockfight. very few are those roosters who scores 5 to 10 wins and died due to old age. karaniwan 3 to four wins lng dedo na or baldado na png brood cock nalang.
in my small backyard, I use 2 method of breeding.. by names or lineage and the other is by performance. I prefer more yung by performance. what I mean is using a multi winner as BC kahit di ko alam bloodline nya at pag nagbigay ng mga multiwinner din na anak ay pinaparami ko ito up to what I can only feed and for personal use only.
