Pls guide me

I am still on a trial run in regard to breeding. I was able to produce 5chicks on an off-season.

Now my problem is that being nearer to the breeding season my hens are unwilling or not ready. I have 3hens that would rather stay on the pole whole day rather than go down and bond with the rooster, its been 2weeks past and still same behavior.

I am single mating 5pairs and only 2are not scared to stand beside their partner. I also noticed that the 2hens have gentler partners.

My questions are:
1. Is it because their partners are too aggressive that drives them away causing trauma?
2. Or the hens are not healthy? Might need some Vits/meds?
3. Or not their season yet?
4. Or the cock is not to their liking?

Those who have experienced same fate and was able to resolve it pls share... Thanx

RAV

Thanx for the info.

Do you think the hen will still sit on the nest if I hand it to the cock manually, or it still depends on the hen?

My partner has that experience sometimes.

- maybe they're not receptive yet because the moult is not yet completed. And makes them feel pain when mounted.

- Your first question is another possibility.

firstblood,

when the hen is moulting then they are not ready to pair.
if not moulting then you will have to wait when their ready.

don't worry the breeding season is near

I always keep the cocks separate from the hens except for an hour or two every other day in the evening, about 2 or 3 hours before dark is the best time to put them together for mating. In fact, if he mates with her when I put him in the pen I remove him at once, especially stags, because they are too much ! The hens will be happier this way & do better. They will be able to eat & drink when they want and come off the roost when they want without being raped. They will also have less of a tendency to break their eggs because sometimes the cocks get in the nest and scratch in an effort to encourage the hen to lay breaking the eggs. Once they start eating the eggs it's almost impossible to stop that bad behavior.

FIS,

PLEASE GUIDE ME

Hi Bro First Blood,

If your hens are not molting then Bro Ravman's suggestion is
quite effective. I have been doing it also and once it lays its
first egg then it is the time when you put them together
in the breeding pen!!!
