Fly Pens

OK..I'm getting ready to build my fly pens ..Back when i was fighting before I built them 4x8..What do you all suggest best ??

4'X8' are fine.But know you have to see how high are you going to built them.

NICE !! Is the wire better than the wood?? Also, going to build some breed pens ..any ideas?? Already have plans for my dark out boxes!!

Here is a picture of some of our broodpens.On breeding season we like to put light bulbs inside.

Well the standard fly pens were brought from Mexico.They usually run about 30.to 40. dollars depending on the material and the quantity.We just added the wood to give it that better look.

More fly pens.We usually used these for conditioning.

NICE ONES !!!!Your are close to the ones I had except like I said, mine ws out of wood ...what is the difference in cost , you know? I really like the wire!!

Nice pics..some look a little smaller than the one I used to have..is there a reason for that??

I suggest building your fly pens with adjustable roast. Start from 3 feet up to your prepared height gradually changing it to 4, 5, and 6 feet. Leave it to 6 feet until he get used to it. The purpose is to build more wind specially if there is some hens roaming around outside. They will fly up and down to have a clear view of the hens. This is very effective if you are applying the rotation method of conditioning. During pointing, you gradually lower the roast back to 4 feet to conserve energy. I have seen these in small breeder in Oklahoma. He just throw some dry feed before he goes to work and let his show work by itself digging to the 4 inch deep straw all day..

Those are some great ideas Sundowner!!! I will build them will with ajustable hieghtsbest idea I've heard yet!! The way Ihave built more wind before is to increase flys to the bench and walks up a walk board with a hen in a cage up top on a platform but your idea sounds easier ...maybe I can work with both. I put them in lower pen when I point them but But I liike your idea better.and yes, I do the same thing with the straw. Thanks again for the tips...makes so much sense!! I,m going your way...oh ..what do you think about mixing the fly bench/walk board and ajustable post??

I believed that bench work/fly pens combination will benefit both the handlers and the rooster as long as it’s not overwork to avoid or minimize muscle bound. The objective is to create close relationship with your untamed warriors and win the trust. It’s also a good idea to have a small amount of feed or apple handy when you pick it up from fly pens and let it pick or bite off your hand. This technique is very effective also specially on man fighters. Always have a hen available in separate drop pen during pointing period when you feed. Physiologically, it’s an effective method of maintaining agility or alertness. Every time you drop, the eagerness to see that hen lingers up to the moment of fight. It works for me in Arizona that’s why I am sharing it with both the newcomers and old timers alike. Happy Thanksgiving to Everybody.
