Re: mating of moulting cock and hen
for my experience it doesn't matter if ur cock or hen are molting during mating, as long as their body are quite good and can be used to breed. what matter most is that it has the power of winning line and supported by nutritious food and vitamins with high in iron, folic acid, and b-complex like b-12.

As to my experience, I've used a molting broodcock during mating and it did not bring me problems at all. I've supplied them with supplement like B-complex/B-12 for them to nourish during mating season. Results were ok and chicks were healthy.

Re: mating of moulting cock and hen
its better to wait during breeding season. in my experienced mating of moulting cock and hen produces less quality chicks .. and most breeders dont breed when their cock and hen are on moult...

Re: mating of moulting cock and hen
It is not adviceable to breed if your brood stocks are moulting. The nutrition will mostly be used for the feathers that are growing that is why quality of reproductive cells will not be good. I also read a research on moulting and fertility before. The research stated that if the brood cock looses more than 25% of its original weight a scientific study showed that this can cause the brood cock to be sterile.

Poor semen quality, poor hatchability, weak and sickly chicks. In other words, waste of time and money.

Re: mating of moulting cock and hen
I agree to that, i've used a 70% molten BC, and the result is not good.
12 eggs only 3 hatched but thank god they are normal and healthy.
Waste of time and effort.. I've should waited a little more.

Re: mating of moulting cock and hen
i observed that rooster on cord while moulting is not aggressive in topping hens running around, in short, they are not fit and doesn't feel good. follow all advises above, and you won't go wrong...happy breeding & good luck

Re: mating of moulting cock and hen
mating moulting bc/bh is not advisable they're unhealthy & unfit so as their produce is unhealthy too...just wait till they fully moulted and condition them to be more healthy and ready for the breeding....remember a very healthy produce comes from a very healthy parents...

Re: mating of moulting cock and hen
In my opinion, the Broodhen should be fresh and healthy. As what I have watched, saw and experienced.
I'm producing fertile eggs and healthy offsprings when I'm using fresh and healthy hens even though my broodcocks are starting to molt.
But I'm not using heavy molted broodcocks in breeding.

Re: mating of moulting cock and hen
During the molt your bird’s bodies are hurting from the growth of fresh bloodfeathers. so the hens avoid being topped by the rooster hence the low fertility. I don’t recommend breeding them until after they are completely done with molting. fis

Re: mating of moulting cock and hen
One disadvantage of breeding while moulting is that usually the hen will need more protein to nourish their body, one source the hen could find is the fresh bloodfeather of the cock.
