Classification of Antibiotics for chickens
Hello Doc,
I have a question regarding classification of antibiotics.
I have heared that there are 3 classification of antibiotics as follows:
1. First generation of antibiotics
2. Second Generatoin antibiotics
3. Third generation of antibiotics
As what I have heared it is not good practice to immediately treat the sick bird using the third generation of antibiotic. According to him, we need to use the first generation of antibiotic to treat the sick bird if the it sick for the first time. If the symptom still persist of using the first generation of antibiotic it is only the time to treat the bird using higher generation of antibiotic. The disadvantage of using third generation of antibiotic is when the bird get immune to it there is no other version of antibiotic that can be use.
With regard to the classification of antibiotic, can you give us the list of antibiotic according to classification?
Example:
First Generation of antibiotics
1. doxycycline - use to treat CRD, etc
2. sulfa drugs - use to threat coccidiosis
Second Generation
1.
2.
Third Generation
1.
2.
Note that the above example is not accurate. I only use it as an example.
I think the information that you can provide us is very useful espeacially to those that breed gamefowl.
thank you very much.
