Blue Legged Kelso (Dennis Oakley)

Just wanted to share with you a few pics of my Blue Leg Kelso from Dennis Oakley, they have been very good to me, great results in the short knife here in Mexico, but there are very few people that have this line and if they have it they don't want to sell it.

Wanted to ask my Filipino friends if some of you have it, what are the results in the LK, and if you have some, I wold love to see some pictures of yours

We have this bloodline Since 1998, and in 2004 my friend Jerry Laurence (JBL GameFarm), send me a blue legged Pure Kelso pullet he raise, only one he has ever raise from his Dink Fair Line, don't remember if that pullet had the Linwood Kelso Bloodline, Well that Hen was the mother of the BroodCock in the Video, hope Jerry can raise a few more, because it gave me ACE cocks.

Thanks and hope you like them.

Re: Blue Legged Kelso (Dennis Oakley)

Hello Juan, just asking if your rooster is a true blue leg kelso, I remember that Dannis Oakley never advertised that line or strain. I have his Radio white leg, and in the 80's I got a strain named "Blue Leg Radios" form Marty Dutcher. It was a cross from a Dannis Oakley White leg Radio rooster and a Hatch (democrat from William Mcrae) with dark legs.

My Blue Leg Radios looks like your Blue leg kelso, like they are twins.

If you want correspond with me, I live in california, near TJ.

Adios
M. o.

Re: Blue Legged Kelso (Dennis Oakley)

I wold love to see those radios. if you have pics please post them.

if you ask if there a true kelso, well I don't like to use the word "Pure" "True", Because Every breeder infuses other lines to perfect their one.

For Example Walter Kelso obtain Inherid fowl from John Madigin, if I am not mistaken he obtain the Madigin Greys, the Madigin Clarets, and the Rangers, and he didnt kept them pure, he infuse some of his on bloodlines to the new ones, he did not care about the strain, he care about performance of the rooster and to breed the rooster If I am not mistaken had to be a multitime winner.

Till these day many big time breeders when you call them and ask for their kelsos, they will say that some will come yellow legged and some white legged, some strait comb and some pea comb, for example the line of Jumper Kelsos that I have some times the pullets came blue legged, I use some of those pullets to keep this line and as I mention the pullet that was send to me by my friend Mr Jerry Lawrence from Texas.

Maybe Dennis Oakley infuse some green legged hatch bloodline in his Kelso line and that is how he obtain this strain, as I was talking a week ago to Jerry Adkins of Slick Lizard asking of his green legged sweaters and he explain me that very few came that way and he and Newton Wade try to discard the ones that came green legged, untill they test them and where more than happy with the results. He also explain that Blue Legs is not a true color because has to have green and white to obtain blue.

Also Mr Kelso had several breeding pens and he never like to use the word PURE.

This Days in Mexico for example many people call their pens a pure "Jumper" and in this case Mr Johnnie Jumper did create the RADIO strain, but Mr Jumper also has Hatch, Greys, Kelsos, ETC., so wich one of this is the pure jumper strain??

This is just my humble oppinion I know there are a lot of people here in Sabong, that can help us a lot more wiht the history issues.

Thanks, and if you can post some pictures of your Radios.

Juan Santos.

i have a blue legged kelso broodcock that was a result of a double brother-sister mating of white legged johnnie jumper kelsos. i read that this is jj's 20grand line. i think that jj infused a doc robinson hatch in his kelsos and this produced this blue-legged broodcock of mine. this is my winningest producer. if crossed to any yellow or white legged hen, all male offsprings come out WHITE legs and all females come out blue legs

we'd have some oakleys b4, the mcleans and the greys...awesome cutting power...the mcleans are still winning, but the greys got lost in the way..as in winning big time (araneta, wsd)

Nice fowls. Looks like hatches. What is the fighting style? Maybe you could upload it somewhere where we could view it or you can email me a video of the sparring.... Just curious too.

JGB, by observing the head, beak, eyes, color, legs, tight feathers.....it appears that Dennis O had infused a green leg breed (hatch or Leiper) to his Kelso.

the darker red of the broodcocks looks exactly like the blue legged kelsos we had brought in at one point in time .. they were from johnny jumper by way of mac white .. they were spectacular birds.

thought i'd share ..

Holy cow! Anyone have any Green legged Roundheads?Or White legged Hatch? I've never heard of these Blue or White Leg Radio.Sounds like someone could sell you crosses as pure and you'd never know. All I need to hear now is someone breeding pure Yellow legged Hatch that is Blue legged and I'll just throw all my hens in one big pen and breed that way.I'll name the breed as they hatch. Now if the roosters are doing good for you fight them, I'm not trying to criticize anyone roosters.I've done well with the BL Kelsos for a few years now, Just too ashamed to call them pure Kelso..
