Re: Famous breeders
dont forget the hatch/gray cock he bought from jerry lee, the gray blood was bennet, dont no what the hatch blood was, but that cock put the ramseys on top,i give credit where credit is due, a breeder , i dont think so, 20 hens in a pen with a several time winner is not the way famous breeders done it, they used a single mating program, but one thing about the ramseys if you met them you had your hands full, their winning record is second to none, they will even show a runner from time to time, but no matter, those crossed were likely the winningest fowl in the u.s. hats off to the ramseys

Re: Famous breeders
dont no how to post the picture i have of mr. orie hunt, but he and his sids made him famous a breeder, and after having the 44 years if i find good sid blood it always gos back to him in one way or another, so hats off to mr. orie hunt for keeping those black cocks good, and for those who still have them ,they dont let it out. orie passed at the ripe old age of 97, a true cocker and breeder. may he rest in peace, also i want to pay tribute to mr. john arron mckeldrey, he had the old percy flowes leapiers/ paleface blueface/ percys finly grays, he also had some of the best kelsos i ever seen, john passed at the age of 71, a great breeder, his fowl was used by some of the greatest cockers there was, so may he rest in peace, i miss them both.

Ramseys never won 3 COY @ Sunset, they won it once and the next year missed it by a small percentage, Absolutley a great feat to say the least. They are still winning a good percentage. Being a farm of foundation brood stock is hardly the case thou. They just win. YFIS

sir, your wrong, I am pretty sure they won it 3 times.. i know for fact they won it twice.. i have grit and steel magazine here where they won it in 2002 and i was at cajun classic last derby of the year in 2005 and they won cocker of the year that year also i seen them get the trophy in the pit..

Re: Famous breeders
FOR THE RECORD
By Consenza
Mr. H.H. Moore was born November 23, 1880 and died November 22, 1963. His son Buck Moore was born in 1914 and died in 1984.
Mr. Moore was from Alex, La. I was raised 10 miles from Mr. Moore. I first met him in about 1953 or 1954. I was at his house at least thirty times or more, as I was Claret crazy.
Mr. Moore had three families of Clarets. .He bred them separate. He had the Wine Reds, the Wheatfield and he made a family of light Brown Red, all yellow-leg and straight comb.
He told me in 1940 or 1941 he got where he couldn’t make the weights at Sunset. His cocks were coming too small.
He bred a six time winning Whitehackle cock into his Wine Red family, and set them as a family. The Wheatfield came all light color. The hens did not have red necks as I seen in the book. Mr. Moore said he got those Clarets from Mr. Madigin when he worked for him, He used a high point regulation on the left leg and a medium point on the right. He used Boston Roundheads for crossing as they were better ground fighters.
I used to get Mr. Moore every other Sunday as he lived by himself and would come eat dinner with us. That was before my daughter was born. He said he like kids but they made him nervous. As I see what he means as I grow older!

It just says famous breeders & he did breed & he is famous. Weather he is a good breeder or not has nothing to do with this thread & it is not up to me to judge.

Look, all i did was post a pic of the guy because it was available. He is famous. As far as being a good breeder maybe you should go tell him what you think.
As far as his picture if it bothers you then just don't look at it.
Years down the road, someone may be glad it is there to see.
You have made your point on him not being a good breeder so i do not think anybody will be confused from here on out.

Re: Famous breeders
Blackhatch one of the top breeders in the country, John & Anne are great people also just about every show I saw John at if he didn't win it he was right there at the top I'm talkin Texoma, Mid-AM , all the top show places, I don't think a few others mentioned could carry Johns feed bucket, just what i've seen over the last 30 years

Dang , carry his feed bucket , That. Is. Harsh . Seems Mr. Slavin is well respected , probably cause of the stack of trophies taking up the hole livingroom space , gotta watch the ceiling fans whit some of them towers .

Re: Famous breeders
I have been to Copperstate when he was there. Did not see him win it but that does not say he was not hard to whip. Never matched into John so i would not know. Seen his fowl preform though.
I think the toughest was where you were at the time. I also learned at a young age not to assume with out any knowledge.
Roy Jones Jr's pic was there so i posted it. There are not many of us left to sit here and squabble over a picture lol. I wish we could find more.

Nobody gets the last word with me if they open their big mouth and start something with me & gets personal & continues to do so. If you posted something & someone got personal with you over & over, you would do the same thing. So, maybe you should not judge me unless you were there & seen the insulting going on by him. This thing goes way back between he & I but one thing is for sure, I did not start it.
As far as you are concerned, you have every right to your opinion & I respect that. I just happened to come across Roy's pic & posted it. Did not think It would bother anybody or give them a reason to say anything about him or me posting it.
So, I respect you and everybody who deserves it so lets just leave it at that & not have any hard feelings.

Re: Famous breeders
I think there is a difference between famous breeders and dam good breeders you will never see the best breeders on this list because they dont sell and dont tell. Just my opinion ive befriended so of the best in the southeast and even after years of gaining trust when i ask how that bird was bred they will just say oh he is just one of my roundheads or whitehackle or what ever the case may be.
