Re: brown red / roundhead will it breed good
Sound like it will be a good cross but iv thought the same that well say rounhead/sid never tried the cross but some crosses just don't work roundhead/sid may be a heck of a cross but idk but rounhead/brownred sounds like it'll be a good one I crossed my brownred over grey and got some pretty good stags

Re: brown red / roundhead will it breed good
I like both the B/R and The R/H. Crosses are just that. Never know what either brings to the table until you do it. Kinda like a brother/sister mating. Either the good comes out or all the bad. Be prepared to cull hard. And gamecock.... You have to admit that was funny! I'm sure Falkor was joking and you did walk into that one. lol......

Now thats funny. I have had my Brownreds almost 30 years use them in the place of hatch for power/bottom in some of my crosses I also got some Billy Abbott Bruners my partners family-never tried the BRxRH cross.-Jim

Re: brown red / roundhead will it breed good
The brownred and rh cross has already been done. Not sure which farm has them but they were on the cover of one of the gamecock mag a few years ago. The called the sharp shooters. Not sure what year but it was rh over brownred..

Re: brown red / roundhead will it breed good
Put it this way... If they both match up as far as quality, no cold blood, and skilled in any way possible, then that blend should not be a problem. We haven't tried that blend around where im from, but i think its worth the try. Let us know how it goes man...

Re: brown red / roundhead will it breed good
we had some brown red / roundhead crosses that were the product of experimental breeding - they nicked! .. we raised a bunch of stags out of that pen and they were exceptional roosters .. ugly colored and slate colored legs but aside from that, they were nice feathered and conformation wise - they were nice! .. they showed a lot better than they looked and a friend of ours offered to purchase the pen from us - sold! .. we called them "brown heads"
if you've got quality parent stock, there should be minimal reason for you not to have quality offsprings ..
just my two cents ..

Re: brown red / roundhead will it breed good
Brownred and rh is a good knife cross. One of my favorite crosses is taking a hatch/rh cock and put it over brownred hens. An old timer i knew who is long gone actually set a strain that way. They were brownreds with a white streamer in the tail. They have brains cut, power and speed.

Re: brown red / roundhead will it breed good
This can prove to be a very good mating..
statistically one would think Not..speed 2 speed.
But if one of your Families has toughness and power
Then this could be a very good cross.
We had a family of Lacey Roundheads
Not ur average Laceys..The Hugh Norman Type which
Proved tuff && dead Game.
We Crossed them with The ole Roy Gray Brownreds.
They were a set Family made up of Hatch-Shufflers...am told.
Anyways We Won Quite a Few Big derbies with these beautys,
their Coloring was Light brownreds with most having a white drag
feather tracing back to the Hugh Norman lacey blood..
and their leg coloring was very striking "Moccassin Legs" the old
timers called it...White outlined with blackn black toes n spurs.
they came 95 % pea comb High headed and long legged.
We Done so well with them that theives came in and stole
us down to the last pullet.
Did not take anything else But these in 3 Visits..grrr
They knew when we went to work and back better than we did!!
Now we tryed to mimicor duplicate this Fine cross
By using some Hi dollar wingates...this cross
Produced junk.
Then we used Some Highly touted canadian mugs..average
birds at best.
But If Your Cross is right like our first..You are in
for a treat..and your competition in for a Surprize. =)

Re: brown red / roundhead will it breed good
We crossed our Brownreds with the Roundheads & they are superb fowl. But, it really depends on your fowl.

Re: brown red / roundhead will it breed good
I seen a question asked about brown reds leg color so its blue/black legs now ive seen some pictures that didnt look like what ive seen as brown red i hope this aint a dumb question but how offten should they be black faced like a warhorse? Or do they not come black faced? The ones i seen where black faced and looked like a black bird crossed with a red bird dark legged so to be clear do brown reds come without black face?

Re: brown red / roundhead will it breed good
my brown reds are a blend of manzeil and blevins so they come both red and mask face but all dark legged and meaner than hell. and i crossed one over some sweater roundhead hens this year.
