Re: Is there a Gamefowl Conditioning Camp (pay) here in Metro Manila Area?
Sir jailbird, thanks for explaining the policies behind non acceptance of hennies. But regarding blacks, as long as that is the natural color of the feathers and not dyed, I don't see why these should not be accepted. I am also a lover of dark colored birds. In any event, these are policies established by some pit owners and managers and they have a right to it. As long as the rules of engagement are clear in the beginning, there is no problem. It would not be right if the rules are changed in the middle of the game. Just my thought. I read about the 1st sagupaan event being organized sometime in March and I have just pledged an entry for the San Pedro eliminations. Cheers.

Re: Is there a Gamefowl Conditioning Camp (pay) here in Metro Manila Area?
Yes Sir BiaknaBato, i agree with you 100 percent. We just play by the rules and enjoy what we can. As joey mentioned, we can always join the smaller derbies where all colors are welcome.
One very good development is the growing trend of cockpits trying to finish the fights around midnight. Nowadays with derbies during weekdays, this is a very good trend. Maybe they realize that slowing down the pace to prolong the event does not really get them more gate paying patrons.
Those "morning show" derbies ending the next morning are really so taxing and tiring. San Juan even starts fights at 1 pm saturdays when its a full slate.

Re: Is there a Gamefowl Conditioning Camp (pay) here in Metro Manila Area?
Sir jailbird, indeed finishing before midnight is a good development and hopefully the trend continues. One of the reasons the gamefowl enthusiasts are increasing and the industry is booming is because the so called "baby boomers" have retired or are in the process of doing so. A favorite pastime is sabong but due to advancing age, we wake up early and tire easily as the day progresses. Management will do well to respond to the wishes for early finish and as you indicated, it is now happening. The idea is to make it a wholesome experience and enjoy the sport, win or lose. The industry is alive and well and I see a lot of OFWs who have invested in small backyard operations to continue feeling "at home" with the chickens.

Re: Is there a Gamefowl Conditioning Camp (pay) here in Metro Manila Area?
Yup, its amazing. With the internet and websites like this, i see so many overseas pinoys indulging in the sport via pics and videos of their fowl. Im currently in touch with a couple now who are very actively in control of their breeding while overseas. Its great to know how the sport makes life so much easier for our kababayans.
I used to be posted overseas but with my family, so it never occured to me how lonesome it would be being alone overseas over a long period of time. But if it were to happen to me i now know that keeping a yard full and monitoring their progress would be a good diversion ;-)

Re: Is there a Gamefowl Conditioning Camp (pay) here in Metro Manila Area?
To satisfy all your cravings for henny or offcolor entries, may I suggest the following derbies for starters... 3cock Daang Hari on Dec27th. P5,500 pot PrizeP300k, guaranteed P200K. 4cock Arcontica cockpit Dec30th, pot P11K.
Mr. Jailbird, this weekend, get your 10-15 meanest, cutting selection of hennies. We just agree the feeds you want i.e super conditioner and thunderbird platinum, electrogen D+ and buy it,also, medicines, I.e Bexan Xp and b50/2forten capsules and supplements- egg, dextrose powder, wash out shampoo, agree maintenance cost per bird for farm costs contribution, per win P____for handlers efforts, tare, and % sharing of prize money, and we can take care of the rest. See you at the derby cockhhouse on fight dates. That simple.
For Sagupaan we can easily plan for that too. More preparation time for your pogi birds naman.. no henies. We can discuss on saturday

Thanks Sir Joey, see you this saturday. My bro will join us too, before he leaves for Pangasinan. He just completed the transfer of broodstock to JalaJala so focus now will be on fighting season for cocks ;-)

Re: Is there a Gamefowl Conditioning Camp (pay) here in Metro Manila Area?
Sagupaan cock derby eliminations in our MMGBA home cockpit in San Pedro Laguna is confirmed on Mar7 or March 14, with semi finals on March 21. I have a two room aircon cockhouse there on the 3rd floor, to our advantage. Humidity and temperature set is well managed for the burds utmost comfort on fight day.
NFGB Bakbakan stag derby is a given, grand finals in Metro Manila, and PFGB Digmaan stag derby grand finals in 2012 will be in Metro Manila. So my conditioning farm location for any of these derbies we choose to join together will be ideal! My principle, birds get to the cockpit on derby day the night before or 5am. No transpo hassles, and they arrive fresh. Can say the samefor cocks coming from far destinations and needing reload plus
See you sat for chicken talk, planning and coffee Looking forward to meeting you all!

Yup maybe we can invite experts like TJT to conduct conditioning seminars. Also some animal nutriitionists and other experts. We can also have knife tying techniques and other pointers.

Re: Is there a Gamefowl Conditioning Camp (pay) here in Metro Manila Area?
You should join our group, the MMGBA. Metro Manila Gamefowl breeders Association, this is exactly what we do in out sabong brotherhood. Last Dec 3, during our annual xmas dinner, we had as guests Patrick Antonio, NFGB President Ricoy Palmares and his officers-Arnel Anonuevo, Al Garcia, Juancho Aguirre, Fred Katigbak, etc. I am among the Board of directors of the MMGBA, my second term now this year and we plan our group activities based on the needs of our members.. and it all started through chicken talk..Last year we got some of the best speakers to teach us the many aspects of sabong, will do again next year.

Re: Is there a Gamefowl Conditioning Camp (pay) here in Metro Manila Area?
Thanks Joey, it was really nice seeing your place so convenient to everyone. We will be identifying the derbies at DHC, PCC, Roligon and SPC will try to find January scheds so we can try out our arrangement. While waiting for the big derbies.
Our desired criteria is small entry fee and decent guaranteed prizes, 3 or 4 cock events that accept hennies :-) preferably starting early to Mid January to mid Feb. Cause march will be for the sagupaan event and also preps for bulangbulang by april.
Nice meeting you too Dondi :-)

ok, great. Curious about the feeds you are going to market soon! Tell me also about your partnership in jala jala to age your stags, how that works too, feeds, labor etc. and the P120 monthly rate you pay?

We set up a 3 way JV - quite simple. Initially, Jun and I provided the broodfowl, breeding program, incubators, hatchers. Jun B provides guidance and overall direction. Our partner provides the space, his staff does the clearing, engineering and construction works. We split all the CAPEX and OPEX 3 ways - or rather we infused capital equally and use it for any capex and opex. We then produce and market stags and split the profits. That simple.
If the venture flourishes, we will value the broodfowl and other caputal equipment contributed, and also set a rental rate for the farm. If it doen not work we return everything to each individual owner and say goodbye as friends :-)
Since the venture was originally just 2 way, i bought all the remaining stags from the original partnership and i pay board and lodging for them now. The rate we used for that was very random, P120 a month is generally to cover part of the caretaker/breeders salary. We however agreed that this will be temporary, as we anticipate the breeding operations to become very hectic pretty soon. I might just move the stags to Pangasinan to board there while waiting for bulangbulang.

Planning to maybe develop the area downstairs into farm lots nalang. Tig 1000 sqm for cockers like your tito who need places to rent in my area.
Today I got a call from a tito in Bacolod wanting a similar arrangement as Jun Benedictos cocks due to upcoming Sagupaan cock derby. Few bacolod breeders may also avail of the same service I am offering.
Text each other tomorrow. Am good morning also if ever, text me

Re: Is there a Gamefowl Conditioning Camp (pay) here in Metro Manila Area?
Sir jailbird, it is nice to see what the net, chicken talk and coffee could do. Sometimes ideas remain imaginary if no action is taken. I can see that you are in process of executing what you have started the thread about. The sagupaan 9 cock derby finals appears to be slated in Pasay. If the qualifiers happen to be from outlying islands of the PI, then you may have found a niche market. Then of course there is the WSC1 and WSC2, Rambulan 1 and 2, another being organized called Digmaan in addition to Bakbakan, all of these culminate in Metro Manila. It appears the industry is still growing but will eventually reach a saturation point. Consolidation will follow and it will be survival of the fittest. Happy holidays.

Thanks BiaknaBato and Happy Christmas to you too. Im glad i started this thread and from the looks of it, Joey's farm will be the ideal set up now. His idea of subletting parcels is even better. Im sure something good will come out if this. Best regards to all!

Planning to develop a rooster village downstairs, you cant see it clearly from this video. Lots will be 1,000sqm each for rent yearly start date Jan1, 2012. 10 lots available initially. Minimum 1 year. Renters build their own fence and facilities, water, electricity, within their 1,000 sqm.

***Sir jailbird and Sir Joey, I've been following your conversations here and, I think that you guys have a very good business plan with regard to this sport. I also think that location is very important for that kind of business and seems like you both have the ideal places in Metro Manila.
I'm just curious though if you guys would ever entertain the idea of having your warriors be rented or financed by other cockers, (specially from the provinces or far away places) that would like to come play in those one day affair 3-5 cock derbies in Metro Manila. If so, what are the required conditions/agreements that must be met by a prospective client in this kind of venture. Thanks.

Re: Is there a Gamefowl Conditioning Camp (pay) here in Metro Manila Area?
Hi Mr. Filamex, sure, yes I normally have my birds financed in big events. The way it works is as follows assuming derby to be joined is already agreed:
Prior to the derby: Financier pays conditioning fee per bird, based on number of birds for derby, pays pot money, funds transportation cost to and from the derby
During the derby: Financier pays the potmoney, per win, for tare services, pays for gamot, and all meals and snacks, coffees during ther derby.
Assuming mag champion, prize is shared 60% in favor of the farm, 40% financier.
Normally a meeting is important to discuss all these matters and signed and agreed via a 1pager document I prepare. For example, if you want to join 1 entry for the Sagupaan 8cock, entry in San Pedro Laguna, meeting has to take place.
If you have your own birds from the province and want them conditioned and handled by my team, we check the birds you want conditioned, and I have a p50 charge per day per bird. Hope this answers your query

Re: Is there a Gamefowl Conditioning Camp (pay) here in Metro Manila Area?
Hi Sir Filamex,
Thanks for the interest, in my current practice along with my brother Jun Benedicto, we also break down the responsibilities and costs to 3 major components: the Rooster Owner, the Handler Conditioner, and the Financier. We believe each has an equally important role in the whole Derby - and we allocate the prizes according to the investment, time and effort entailed.
The owner of the show provides the entry number of roosters PLUS spares - usually we require an equal amount for the spares - or reserves - eg: in a 5 cock show, we need 10 roosters, selected and properly preconditioned, meaning that they were de-wormed, deloused (within 30 days before arrival in the camp, and have been completely vaccinated at least once within he previous 6-12 month period (booster).
The conditioner/handler provides all the necessary tools required, including the teepees, folding cages, flypens, scratch pens, catch cocks, lighting facilities, and the methodology and conditioning system. And all the manpower necessary to implement the agreed regimens and systems. Please note that in our definition, the handler is not just the person who handles the roosters , but is the camp owner and manager. The actual "handler" may just actually be his employee or contracted professional. Ths means that he owns and provides all the capital expense items. The gaffer is the option of the financier supervised by the conditioner, since the financier pays for the gaffer.
The Financier plays a major role not only in providing the financial requirements. Along with the owner and handler he decides on which event will be entered. the type of derby entered actually influences the split in the prizes.
Eg, a derby with P3,300 entry fee and P200,000 guaranteed prize cannot be split in the same way as a P110,000 entry fee with a P1,500,000 guaranteed prize.
Another factor is the type of derby to be joined. A stag derby utilizes young stags, presumably much lower costing than a 3-4 year old full capability cock with 2-3 wins under its belt, which is what is you want for an event like candelaria or the NCA circuit.
On a normal basis, eg 5 cock derby, P11,000-16,500 entry fee, and guaranteed 500th-1M prize, we allocate winnings as follows: 40 percent to cock owner, 40 percent to Financier and 20 percent to Conditioning Camp.
