Re: RedQuills
I just love the color pattern of these RED QUILLS. Next year I will cross my Asil/Jap cock to the Red Quill hen and see if they are better than my 1/2 Asil-Jap + 1/2 Sid Taylors.

Lets see what it look like? Sid Taylor and Redquill will be your Brown Red, just like our version of Brownn Red (Blackjack and Redquill).

Re: RedQuills
Has anyone tried getting the Redquils from Bill Covington of Rambler Farms? Or anyone know who else has good Redquils?

You have a very handsome Red Quill. His color is fantastic, but I believe there is some outside blood infused in your Red Quill because of the very light color and especially if they come out with pea combs. Red Quills are strictly straight comb and red/ginger color, black eyes and willow legs from what I have read about their history .
This is a Marvin Wilson line 'pure' RED QUILL stag (already dubbed, but he's straight comb) obtained from Mr. Ron Lutz of Topeka, Kansas, USA

Mine came from an old friend. He told me he bought them from Gary Gilliam's Father and hasn't added any new blood. He bought them as Eslin Red Quils. I bought them because my Wife Loves them. I still haven't tested mine. I have about Seven Stags this season though. Yes they do come lighter than yours, mine have Green beaks and legs and black eyed. One of them has a yellow beak and red eyes.

You made me feel a lot better about my family of red quill family. But mine come pea combed. Is that normal?

Thanks! I'm glad you popped in here so you can straighten us out on how a true 'pure' Red Quill is supposed to look like . You are probably the most well versed in the history of the Red Quills (granted, mine are not Eslin Red Quills).
This is the latest picture of the pure Marvin Wilson RED QUILLS we produced; fortunately I got 3 females for breeding next year .

Re: RedQuills
Thanks, the Albany broodcock helped make these stags look good. They've got a lot of shuffle to them, I hope they CUT quickly and are good enough to win, lol.

I DO !
My RED QUILLS are kinda small because of their inbreeding. They are good for infusing SPEED into a battle-cross like I did with my medium station Johnny Moore ALBANY/Red Quill cross stags that you see in the previous photos.
Right now I have some high stationed 1/2 Sweater - 1/2 Allen RH stags so I bred one of them to my Red Quill hen, so far she laid 5 eggs.
