I would let her free range for some time. My guess is because they don't really move much in pens as if they free ranging.

I would cut back on the feed I give her but dont stop feeding her for days. Also maybe cut back on the amount of corn in her feed.Try putting 2 tbls of apple cider vinegar per gallon of water and Hang it up at roost level in the fly pen so she has to work(fly up)to get it.Give her that water for 3 straight days and then repeat that the following week.It is supposed to help remove gut fat.I got the vinegar in the water idea from Paul Hulins conditioning method but if it works for Roosters it should work for hens too.

Wow, glad I checked out this post, I have a Mcrae hen thats the same way! What I started to do was give her some mixed veggies mixed in with her feed, since she is moulting right now, I really don't want to handle them but I can tell she is loosing the excess weight she once had. I did check her a few days ago, I just reached in and gently felt her body and she did loose some weight, I didn't lift her up in my hands I just gently gave her a firm hold on her back, chest and vent area and she felt great!

Re: Everyones thought on a hen on a diet.

Put her on a barrel (string walk) and give her half ration. 1 level skoal can a day. Keep fresh water there. She will drop the weight. It took a while to put it on it will take a while to take it off. By giving half a ration she will work all day to get feed and have green grass available. I dont care what anyone tells you you arnt going to melt off 4 oz of fat in a week. I dont care what you give them. The only way your gonna get that much fat out of there ass that quick is with a knife.

feeding a small amount of chopped tomato will also help with bringing the weight off without weakening her.you really dont want to bring it off to fast.i've only done this with roosters but am sure it would work on hens also.
