Re: sunset
It does seem like a long time ago. Best times ever had. Spent time with the Easterlings and a famous boxer in 08. Will never forget it.

Re: sunset
Yep they closed before the others. They closed when the gambling bill was passed in Louisiana which was the year before the actual fighting bill went into effect. Sunset was officially owned by a board so they were afraid if it was raided because of illegal gambling that even all the board members could have been charged with running a gambling house. So they went ahead and closed early even though the fighting was still legal. At least this is what was told to me by people that would know.

Re: sunset
Just got information from a fellow cocker who talked to Sammy Rayles, the manager of Red River and the first owner of Texoma, that Sunset actually closed in 2003.....They locked the doors and walked out.

Re: sunset
Windwalker,
I think that date might be a typo. I was there after 2003 for sure.

It was open later than that because I have trophies a lot newer than that from there so I know for sure that date is wrong.

Re: sunset
Now this is an interesting topic! I never knew anything about the sport until I moved to the Philippines. Little did I know that Sunset was just about an hour up the road from me. Knowing what I know now, I would have loved to have seen a show!

Re: sunset
Anyone have memories of Jerry Lee Singleton that showed there when legal ? I didn't know him back then but have recently become friends with him and he talks like he did very well back then at Sunset..I know his buddies the Ramsey boys all ways did well there...Unfortunately I never did get to go to sunset or any of the other major circuit pits

Re: sunset
I wonder if they sold the assets and distributed the proceeds among the shareholders? They might be sitting on it hoping for things to turn around.
